This Sunday March 8th the 2015 Phoenix Tools/Ifly Premier motocross Championship gets underway with the opening round at Whiteway Barton, Kingsteignton which always produces some excellent racing.
This year there has been a extra Championship added in the shape of a Pro Expert class to run along side the Experts to give some of the up graded riders from the junior ranks something to aim for when riding with the more experienced riders and the Pro’s.
The 2015 series will consist of 10 rounds which will incorporate 6 different Championships, which have kindly been sponsored by Phoenix Tools/Ifly Pro Expert Championship, Tony Maunders Expert Championship, M D Racing Over 35’s, Over 40’s and Over 50’s Championship and Tyremarks of Tavistock the Junior Championship. Also there will be a team event as usual who we say a big Thank you to Barry Maunders of Tony Maunders Racing who stepped in at the last minute to support this class.
There has been great interest for the opening round and has attracted a bumper entry which includes in the Pro Experts Alex Snow who this year will be looking to go one better after finishing runner up last year, Welshman Shane Carless, John May, Alfie Smith, Jamie Skuse, James Dodd, Michael Eccles, James Harrison, Kelvin Townsend, Tom Moore, Ross Hill, Ben Hunt, Todd Kellett plus wildcards Liam Garland, Luke Mellows and Dave Willett to name a few, where as in the Experts we have the likes of Sam Gabriel, Ty Kellett, Josh Taylor, Charlie Putnam, James Kensington, Jack Stevens, Lewis Barfoot, Luke Sturgeon and making a return to racing Luke Hill.
In the Over 35 class it will be defending Champion Nick Life who will be hoping to set is authority at the opening round, but there is plenty of other talent in attendance like Stephen Elford, Rick Hanson, Martyn Tucker and Jamie Deadman to name a few, plus in the Over 40’s defending Champion Chris Brown will have to be at his best as lining up beside him for 2015 will be the likes of Terry House, David and Paul Ford, Richard Tapscott and Rob Lewis. The Over 50’s is stacked with talent and will have defending Champion Mark Gleadhill up against it as joining him will be the likes of Graham Beale, Adrian Toy and Steve Chugg plus many others.
In the Juniors there is some 120 competitors which has many up and coming schoolboys all moving up to compete in the adult ranks for the first time, so things will be interesting to watch as they will be all out to show what they are capable of.
Whiteway Barton is an excellent viewing track with easy parking and will be signposted off the A380 Exeter to Newton Abbot road with the first race at 10-30am. (Postcode TQ12 3QF)
